The Opportunity

A well-established hospitality venue in South Australia is seeking an experienced and hands-on Head Chef to take ownership of its kitchen operations. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior chef who can lead a team, maintain high food standards and manage the day-to-day performance of a busy kitchen.

The successful candidate will play a key role in developing the food offering, managing kitchen operations and creating a positive, organised and professional working environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, train and develop the kitchen team
  • Oversee the daily operation and performance of the kitchen
  • Maintain consistent food quality, presentation and portion control
  • Manage kitchen preparation and service standards
  • Develop menus, daily specials and seasonal food offerings
  • Maintain and implement recipes, yields and portion sizes
  • Manage kitchen rosters and labour requirements
  • Monitor food and wage costs
  • Manage ordering, stock levels and inventory
  • Control food wastage and identify opportunities to improve efficiency
  • Maintain food safety, hygiene and cleaning standards
  • Ensure compliance with relevant food safety requirements
  • Coordinate kitchen operations with venue and management teams
  • Support junior chefs and kitchen staff through training and development
  • Maintain an organised, efficient and professional kitchen environment
  • Work hands-on during preparation and service periods
  • Take overall responsibility for kitchen standards and performance

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Previous experience as a Head Chef, Sous Chef or senior kitchen leader
  • Strong experience managing a busy commercial kitchen
  • Experience in pubs, hotels, clubs or high-volume casual dining is highly regarded
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation, presentation and kitchen operations
  • Good understanding of food costing, labour management and stock control
  • Knowledge of food safety, hygiene and workplace standards
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, train and develop kitchen staff
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • Ability to maintain quality and consistency during busy service periods
  • Hands-on approach to kitchen leadership
  • Reliable, professional and team-oriented attitude
  • Ability to work effectively with venue management
  • Willingness to relocate and contribute to a regional South Australian community
