Understanding AQF & NZQA

Why is a Skills Assessment Mandatory?

For most skilled migration pathways, a formal assessment is a legal requirement to ensure you possess the necessary expertise for your nominated occupation.

Australia: 482 TSS Visa

For the Temporary Skill Shortage (subclass 482) visa, a skills assessment is required to:

  • Verify that you meet the standards for your nominated occupation
  • Ensure you have the minimum 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Comply with mandatory requirements for specific trade occupations
  • Establish eligibility for future permanent residency pathways

New Zealand: AEWV

For the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV), an NZQA assessment or skills verification is vital to:

  • Determine if your qualification is equivalent to a NZ qualification
  • Meet the specific requirements of the Green List (if applicable)
  • Satisfy the 'Job Check' requirements set by the employer
