The Opportunity

An established and community-focused hospitality venue in Queensland is seeking an experienced Sous Chef to join its kitchen team. This is a full-time opportunity for a skilled chef who can lead by example, maintain high food standards, and support smooth kitchen operations during busy service periods.

Working closely with the Head Chef, you will have the opportunity to contribute to menu development, team leadership, stock management, and the continued improvement of kitchen operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the daily operation of the commercial kitchen
  • Support the Head Chef with preparation and service requirements
  • Lead and supervise the kitchen team during busy service periods
  • Take responsibility for kitchen operations in the absence of the Head Chef
  • Maintain consistent food quality, presentation, and portion standards
  • Assist with menu development, seasonal dishes, and daily specials
  • Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering and inventory control
  • Implement strategies to minimise food waste and control kitchen costs
  • Maintain high standards of food hygiene, safety, and workplace practices
  • Ensure HACCP and food safety procedures are followed
  • Train, mentor, and support junior kitchen team members
  • Assist with rostering and effective allocation of kitchen duties
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and professional kitchen environment
  • Work collaboratively with front-of-house and management teams
  • Contribute to a positive and productive kitchen culture

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Previous experience as a Sous Chef, Senior Chef, or equivalent senior kitchen role
  • Commercial Cookery trade qualification
  • Strong experience working in a busy hospitality or commercial kitchen
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise kitchen staff
  • Experience managing high-volume food service periods
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation, presentation, and kitchen procedures
  • Sound understanding of food safety and HACCP requirements
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and team leadership abilities
  • Hands-on approach with a strong work ethic
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Commitment to maintaining consistent quality and service standards
  • Australian working rights or eligibility for employer sponsorship
  • Willingness to relocate to Queensland if required
