The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Sous Chef to join a professional hospitality kitchen in New South Wales. This full-time position is suited to a skilled chef who can take responsibility for food preparation, kitchen operations, team coordination and maintaining consistently high culinary standards.

The successful candidate will work closely with senior kitchen leadership, contribute to menu development and help deliver quality dining experiences in a busy hospitality environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Chef with menu planning and food preparation
  • Oversee daily kitchen operations, including preparation, cooking and plating
  • Maintain consistent standards of food quality, presentation and portion control
  • Supervise, support and train kitchen team members
  • Ensure food safety, hygiene and HACCP procedures are consistently followed
  • Monitor inventory, stock levels and food usage
  • Assist with controlling food costs and minimising food wastage
  • Quality check dishes before they are served to customers
  • Take responsibility for kitchen operations when the Head Chef is unavailable
  • Contribute ideas for new dishes and seasonal menu development
  • Work collaboratively with senior chefs to maintain culinary standards
  • Ensure kitchen equipment is used correctly and maintained appropriately
  • Maintain a clean, organised and efficient kitchen environment
  • Communicate effectively with front-of-house staff to support smooth service
  • Work efficiently during busy service periods while maintaining quality standards

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Sous Chef, Senior Chef or in a similar senior kitchen position
  • Strong practical culinary skills and knowledge of a range of cooking techniques and cuisines
  • Relevant culinary qualification, apprenticeship or minimum Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent
  • Sound knowledge of food safety, hygiene and HACCP principles
  • Valid NSW Food Safety Certificate
  • Current food handling certification
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, train and motivate kitchen staff
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Experience with stock control and kitchen management systems
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to food quality, presentation and customer satisfaction
  • Willingness to work full-time in New South Wales
