CNC Machine Operator / Machinist

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced CNC Machinist to join an established precision engineering operation in New Zealand. This is a skilled machining position within a high-mix, low-volume environment, offering varied work across CNC milling, turning and multi-axis machining.

The role involves independently setting, proving and operating CNC machinery to manufacture and repair a diverse range of precision components. The work includes one-off and small-run production, as well as complex industrial components and repair/refurbishment projects.

This position is well suited to a technically capable machinist who enjoys variety, problem-solving and working on challenging components rather than repetitive production work.

• Independently set, prove and operate CNC machine tools
• Manufacture and repair components in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications
• Produce precision components to required dimensions and tolerances
• Read and interpret detailed engineering drawings and technical specifications
• Select suitable cutting tools, tooling, workholding methods and machining parameters
• Perform CNC milling, turning and/or multi-axis machining operations
• Carry out in-process measurements, inspections and quality checks
• Identify, troubleshoot and resolve machining, tooling and setup issues
• Work with a variety of one-off, prototype and low-volume machining jobs
• Machine small precision components through to larger and complex industrial components
• Undertake repair, refurbishment and modification machining work where required
• Maintain high standards of accuracy, workmanship and product quality
• Follow workplace health and safety procedures and safe machining practices
• Complete machining work efficiently while meeting production requirements
• Contribute ideas and practical solutions to improve machining processes
• Work collaboratively with other members of the engineering and machining team

• Proven experience working as a CNC Machinist in a precision engineering environment
• Strong CNC machine setup, proving and operating experience
• Practical experience with CNC milling, turning and/or multi-axis machining
• Ability to independently set and prove CNC machining jobs
• Experience working in high-mix, low-volume, one-off or small-run production environments
• Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
• Good knowledge of cutting tools, tooling selection and machining parameters
• Sound understanding of workholding, tolerances and general machining practices
• Strong practical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to work confidently with complex and technically challenging components
• Experience with larger industrial components would be advantageous
• Ability to work safely, efficiently and independently
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Positive attitude and willingness to contribute to an experienced machining team
• Relevant CNC machining qualifications or trade certification would be advantageous
