Diesel Motor Mechanic

We are seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join a well-established heavy vehicle operation in New Zealand. This is a hands-on opportunity for a skilled mechanic with strong diesel, hydraulic and electrical fault-finding abilities.

• Service and repair diesel engines and associated mechanical components
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults
• Carry out preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing
• Repair and maintain heavy vehicles and related equipment
• Identify faults and complete repairs efficiently to minimise downtime
• Conduct inspections and assess vehicle condition
• Use diagnostic tools and software to identify mechanical and electrical issues
• Maintain accurate service records, job documentation and maintenance reports
• Follow workplace health and safety procedures at all times
• Keep the workshop, tools and work areas clean, safe and organised
• Work effectively both independently and as part of a team
• Carry out duties in workshop and outdoor working environments as required

• Minimum 2 years' experience servicing and repairing heavy vehicles
• Relevant diesel or heavy vehicle mechanical qualification and/or demonstrated industry experience
• Full Class 1 New Zealand driver's licence or equivalent overseas licence
• Class 4 licence is advantageous
• Strong fault-finding skills across diesel engines, hydraulics and electrical systems
• Good understanding of preventative maintenance and heavy vehicle servicing
• Ability to use diagnostic equipment and relevant software
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Safety-first approach with good attention to detail
• Comfortable completing job documentation and service records
• Physically fit and capable of working in workshop and outdoor environments
• Willingness to undergo pre-employment drug and alcohol testing and medical assessment
• Ability to pass a Ministry of Justice (MOJ) check
• Must have the legal right to work in New Zealand, or be eligible for employer-sponsored work authorization
