Underground Heavy Diesel Fitter

Experienced Heavy Diesel Fitters, Plant Mechanics and Agricultural Mechanics are wanted for underground hard rock mining operations in NSW.

These residential positions offer the opportunity to build a long-term career in underground mining while working on heavy mobile equipment. Candidates from agricultural, civil, quarry, earthmoving and heavy transport backgrounds are encouraged to apply, even without previous underground mining experience.

The roles involve maintaining and repairing underground mobile fleets, with a strong focus on equipment reliability, safety and minimising downtime. Various roster options are available, including even-time arrangements.

• Perform scheduled servicing, inspections and maintenance on underground mobile equipment
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, driveline and braking faults
• Maintain equipment including underground loaders, haul trucks, drills and other heavy machinery
• Complete engine, transmission, final drive and hydraulic component change-outs and rebuilds
• Respond to equipment breakdowns underground and in workshop environments
• Carry out preventive maintenance according to site maintenance schedules
• Identify mechanical faults and restore equipment to safe operating condition
• Read and use technical drawings, hydraulic schematics and equipment service manuals
• Complete accurate maintenance, service and repair documentation
• Work closely with supervisors, planners and maintenance teams
• Follow site safety procedures, isolations, permits and pre-start requirements
• Support equipment reliability and help reduce operational downtime

• Trade qualification in Diesel Fitting, Heavy Vehicle Mechanics, Plant Mechanics, Agricultural Mechanics or an equivalent Certificate III qualification
• Relevant experience maintaining and repairing heavy mobile equipment
• Strong mechanical diagnostic and fault-finding skills
• Experience with hydraulics, engines, drivelines and braking systems
• Underground hard rock mining experience is advantageous but not essential
• Experience with Sandvik, Epiroc or Caterpillar equipment is highly regarded
• Experience in earthmoving, civil, quarry, heavy haulage or agricultural machinery is also considered
• Current driver's licence
• Ability to work shifts and rostered schedules
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to work independently and follow safety procedures
• Willingness to learn new equipment and transition into underground mining
• Mining inductions, working at heights, confined space or first aid qualifications are advantageous
• Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical and functional assessment
• Ability to pass required drug and alcohol testing and a National Police Check
