The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity is available for a passionate and motivated Chef de Partie or Commis Chef to join a well-established hospitality venue in the Otago region. This role offers the chance to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment focused on delivering high-quality food and exceptional customer experiences.

Whether you are building your culinary career as a Commis Chef or already have experience managing your own section as a Chef de Partie, this position provides excellent opportunities for professional development within a supportive and collaborative team.

The successful candidate will be passionate about food preparation, committed to maintaining high standards, and capable of working efficiently during busy service periods.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare ingredients and menu items to established quality standards
  • Cook and present dishes with consistency, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Support smooth and efficient kitchen operations during service periods
  • Manage and maintain assigned kitchen sections where required
  • Assist with food preparation and service across multiple kitchen areas
  • Maintain clean, organised, and service-ready workstations
  • Follow food safety, hygiene, and health regulations at all times
  • Monitor stock levels and assist with inventory management
  • Work collaboratively with kitchen and front-of-house teams
  • Support daily kitchen preparation and closing procedures
  • Assist with training and mentoring junior kitchen staff where appropriate
  • Contribute to maintaining a positive and productive team environment
  • Continuously develop culinary skills and knowledge
  • Ensure high standards of food quality and presentation are consistently achieved

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 2 years of kitchen experience in a commercial food service environment
  • Passion for food preparation and hospitality
  • Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene practices
  • Good knife skills and knowledge of kitchen operations
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work well within a team environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn and develop
  • For Chef de Partie applicants, experience running a kitchen section is preferred
  • For Chef de Partie applicants, experience supporting or mentoring junior staff is advantageous
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of food quality and presentation
  • Ability to meet standard employment and workplace requirements
