Diesel Fitter

This is a hands-on opportunity for a skilled heavy plant professional to work across a diverse range of construction machinery and specialised equipment. The role combines workshop-based maintenance with field service and breakdown response, providing variety and the opportunity to work independently across different equipment and sites.

You will be responsible for keeping heavy plant and construction equipment safe, reliable and operational through preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis, repairs and field servicing.

• Carry out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance on heavy plant and construction equipment
• Diagnose and repair mechanical faults across mobile and heavy equipment
• Perform hydraulic fault finding, testing and repairs
• Carry out electrical fault diagnosis and basic electrical repairs
• Attend onsite breakdowns and complete field-service repairs
• Maintain and repair excavators, cranes, piling rigs and other heavy construction machinery
• Conduct equipment inspections and identify potential mechanical issues
• Remove, repair and replace components as required
• Complete breakdown repairs efficiently and safely with minimal supervision
• Maintain accurate service, inspection and maintenance records
• Ensure plant and machinery remain safe, reliable and operational
• Use diagnostic and mechanical testing equipment where required
• Work independently when attending site call-outs and breakdowns
• Follow workplace health, safety and environmental procedures
• Support workshop maintenance activities and general mechanical requirements

• Trade qualification as a Diesel Fitter, Heavy Plant Mechanic, Mobile Plant Mechanic or equivalent
• Proven experience maintaining and repairing heavy plant or construction equipment
• Practical experience with excavators, cranes, piling rigs, earthmoving equipment or similar machinery
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
• Strong hydraulic troubleshooting and repair experience
• Experience carrying out field-service and onsite breakdown repairs
• Ability to diagnose faults and complete repairs with minimal supervision
• Ability to work effectively across both workshop and field environments
• Current Australian driver's licence or ability to obtain one where applicable
• Strong commitment to workplace health and safety
• Reliable, practical and hands-on approach
• Ability to work independently and manage field breakdowns effectively
• Experience with CAT, Komatsu, Hitachi, Liebherr, Tadano, Grove, Franna, Terex or similar equipment will be highly regarded
