A leading mining operation in Queensland is seeking an experienced Senior Mining Engineer – Short Term Planning to support the safe and efficient delivery of underground mining activities. The role is suited to an experienced underground mining engineer with strong short-term planning, mine design, drill and blast, and operational leadership capabilities. FIFO options from Brisbane or Townsville, or residential arrangements, may be available.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and oversee short-term mine planning and design activities
Develop practical short-term execution strategies from medium- and long-term mine plans
Prepare mine designs and plans supporting development, production, services and infrastructure
Optimise underground mine design and planning processes
Develop and optimise drill and blast designs
Support safe and efficient production and development activities
Coordinate planning across multiple underground mining fronts and operational areas
Provide technical guidance and leadership to mining engineering personnel
Mentor and support engineers, graduates and cadets
Work closely with operations to ensure plans align with site capabilities and production targets
Monitor production readiness and identify opportunities for operational improvement
Support effective integration of development, stoping, ventilation, backfill and underground infrastructure requirements

Requirements & Eligibility

Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline
Minimum 6–8 years of mining engineering experience
Strong underground hard rock mining experience preferred
Demonstrated experience in short-term mine planning
Strong experience in drill and blast design and operational mine design
Practical understanding of underground mining methods and production processes
Experience leading or mentoring mining engineers, graduates or cadets
Strong knowledge of stope design and underground mine planning
Proficiency with mine design software such as Surpac, Vulcan, Datamine or Deswik
Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work effectively with mining operations and technical teams
