Switchboard Electrician & HV/MV Electrical Engineer

A leading Australian electrical engineering and manufacturing business is expanding its team in Queensland and is seeking experienced electrical professionals for two separate opportunities: Switchboard Electrician – Testing & Commissioning and HV/MV Electrical Engineer – Switchboards & Power Systems.

The business specialises in the design, manufacture, testing and commissioning of LV, MV and HV electrical infrastructure, supporting projects across utilities, mining, renewable energy, infrastructure and industrial sectors.

The Switchboard Electrician position focuses on the testing, inspection, fault finding, assembly and commissioning of electrical switchboards, MCCs, control panels and transportable switchrooms. The role involves both workshop-based activities and occasional site installation and commissioning work.

The HV/MV Electrical Engineer will work across complex power systems, switchboards, switchgear, substations, protection and control systems and power distribution infrastructure. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with engineering, manufacturing, testing, quality and project teams.

• Perform functional, mechanical and electrical testing of LV, MV and HV switchboards and transportable switchrooms
• Conduct insulation resistance, continuity, polarity, phase rotation, earth continuity and operational testing
• Carry out protection relay verification, control circuit testing and commissioning activities
• Diagnose and rectify electrical, wiring and functional faults
• Complete quality inspections in accordance with AS/NZS 61439 and project specifications
• Assemble and modify switchboards, MCCs, control panels and associated electrical equipment
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, single line diagrams and General Arrangement drawings
• Prepare testing, commissioning and quality documentation
• Support Factory Acceptance Testing with customers and consultants
• Mentor apprentices, trades assistants and junior electricians
• Undertake occasional site installation, testing and commissioning activities
• Participate in shutdowns and after-hours projects when required

• Current Queensland Electrical Work Licence as an Electrical Mechanic or Electrical Fitter
• Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician or Electrical Fitting
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in industrial switchboard manufacturing, testing or commissioning
• Strong experience with LV switchboards, MCCs and industrial control systems
• Experience with electrical testing, commissioning and fault finding
• Exposure to MV/HV switchgear, substations or protection systems is highly regarded
• Strong ability to diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical drawings
• Good knowledge of AS/NZS 61439, AS/NZS 3000 and relevant Australian Standards
• Current CPR/LVR certification
• Ability to work across workshop and project environments
• Willingness to undertake occasional interstate and site-based work
• HV/MV Electrical Engineer
• Australian registration as an Electrical Engineer
• Minimum 2 years of relevant industry experience
• Practical experience working with HV and/or MV electrical systems
• Experience with switchboards, switchgear, substations, protection and control systems or power distribution is highly regarded
• Strong ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications and technical documentation
• Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills
• Understanding of relevant Australian Standards and electrical engineering requirements
• Ability to work effectively with engineering, manufacturing, testing and project teams
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
