Bakery Manager

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Baker, Senior Baker, or established Bakery Manager to step into a leadership-focused role within a successful retail bakery operation in Taranaki, New Zealand.

This position is ideal for a hands-on bakery professional who combines strong technical baking skills with leadership potential, commercial awareness, and a passion for product innovation. You will play a key role in developing the bakery department, supporting team performance, maintaining high production standards, and introducing new ideas that enhance the customer experience.

The role offers an excellent pathway for an experienced baker ready to progress into management, as well as an opportunity for an existing Bakery Manager seeking a new challenge in a supportive and community-focused environment.

• Lead and supervise the daily operation of the bakery department
• Plan and coordinate bakery production to maintain consistent product availability
• Produce and maintain high standards of quality, freshness, taste, and presentation
• Develop and introduce new bakery products, recipes, and innovative ideas
• Monitor production requirements and adjust output according to customer demand
• Manage stock levels, ordering, waste, and product availability effectively
• Monitor labour utilisation and contribute to strong department financial performance
• Train, coach, motivate, and develop bakery team members
• Create efficient workflows and maintain high standards of productivity
• Lead by example through a hands-on approach to bakery production and team management
• Maintain strict food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety standards
• Ensure bakery procedures and operational standards are consistently followed
• Monitor customer feedback and identify opportunities to improve products and service
• Maintain an attractive and well-presented bakery department
• Work closely with store leadership to achieve operational and commercial objectives
• Support continuous improvement across bakery production and department performance

• Proven experience working in a bakery environment
• Previous experience in a supermarket, retail bakery, commercial bakery, or similar operation
• Experienced Bakers and Senior Bakers with strong leadership potential are encouraged to apply
• Previous Bakery Manager or bakery supervisory experience will be highly regarded
• Strong knowledge of bakery production processes and product quality standards
• Passion for baking, product development, and continuous improvement
• Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills
• Ability to coach, motivate, and develop bakery staff
• Excellent organisational and time-management abilities
• Strong understanding of stock, waste, production, and labour management
• Hands-on approach with the ability to lead by example
• Strong customer-service mindset and commitment to quality
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced bakery environment
• Commitment to food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety standards
• Willingness to relocate to Taranaki, New Zealand
