The Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Chef de Partie to join a dynamic kitchen team in New Zealand. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate chef who takes pride in producing high-quality food, working collaboratively, and maintaining strong kitchen standards.

The successful candidate will have the confidence to manage their assigned section independently while contributing to daily service, specials, menu preparation, and overall kitchen operations. You will work closely with senior chefs in a professional and supportive environment where culinary skills, reliability, teamwork, and attention to detail are highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook dishes consistently to a high standard under the direction of the Head Chef
  • Assist with daily specials and à la carte menu preparation
  • Create and prepare wine-friendly international dishes using seasonal and cost-effective produce
  • Complete preparation requirements for each service, including staff meals
  • Manage and maintain an organized and efficient kitchen section
  • Follow food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety standards at all times
  • Maintain clean and hygienic workstations, kitchen areas, equipment, and storage facilities
  • Monitor stock levels within the assigned section and communicate ordering requirements to senior kitchen staff
  • Receive, check, store, and handle food and non-food products appropriately
  • Apply effective stock rotation procedures to minimize food waste and maintain product quality
  • Regularly organize and maintain chillers, freezers, dry stores, and other storage areas
  • Work efficiently during busy service periods while maintaining quality and consistency
  • Participate in kitchen meetings, training, supplier visits, and team development activities
  • Develop knowledge of local produce, ingredients, and culinary techniques
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with colleagues and guests
  • Contribute positively to a multicultural and collaborative kitchen environment
  • Support the Head Chef and wider kitchen team with additional duties as required

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Proven experience working as a Chef de Partie or in a similar professional kitchen role
  • Strong practical cooking and food preparation skills
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a kitchen team
  • Good understanding of food safety, hygiene, and kitchen cleanliness standards
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure during busy service periods
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Passion for cooking and commitment to delivering consistently high-quality food
  • Good organizational and time-management skills
  • Professional presentation and a positive approach to workplace responsibilities
  • Ability to work effectively within a multicultural team environment
  • Willingness to learn and develop culinary knowledge and skills
  • Relevant culinary qualifications or professional kitchen experience will be highly regarded
