Diesel Mechanic

This is an excellent opportunity for a Trade Qualified Diesel Mechanic to work with a modern fleet of heavy machinery and vehicles in a stable, full-time role.

Working within a professional workshop team, you will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, and repairing a diverse fleet of heavy commercial trucks, trailers, earthmoving equipment, agricultural machinery, light vehicles, and small plant. The role offers a balanced mix of workshop-based and field service work, providing variety and ongoing technical challenges.

• Carry out scheduled servicing, maintenance and repairs on heavy diesel vehicles and equipment
• Diagnose and repair faults on diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems
• Perform preventative maintenance to minimise equipment downtime
• Complete both workshop-based and onsite maintenance activities
• Inspect machinery and identify mechanical issues before failures occur
• Maintain accurate service records and job documentation
• Work safely in accordance with workplace health and safety procedures
• Communicate effectively with workshop staff, supervisors and suppliers
• Assist with maintaining workshop equipment and tools
• Contribute to efficient fleet reliability and operational performance
• Support continuous improvement and equipment reliability initiatives

• Trade qualification as a Diesel Mechanic
• Minimum 3 years' relevant industry experience
• Experience servicing and repairing heavy diesel equipment
• Sound knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, transmissions and electrical systems
• Experience with earthmoving or heavy transport equipment is highly regarded
• Engineering or fabrication experience is advantageous but not essential
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic abilities
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
• Positive attitude with a strong commitment to safety
• Physically fit and capable of working in workshop and field environments
• Current driver licence (heavy vehicle licence advantageous)
• Willingness to relocate within the Otago region if currently living elsewhere
