Equipment Technician / Diesel Mechanic

A leading heavy equipment and machinery provider in the Manawatū-Whanganui region is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Technician to join its professional service team. This is a permanent full-time opportunity for a skilled mechanical tradesperson who is passionate about delivering high-quality service, maintenance, and repair solutions for heavy machinery and equipment.

Working within a modern and well-equipped workshop environment, you will be responsible for diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs, and performing preventative maintenance on a range of heavy plant and equipment. • Diagnose faults and mechanical issues on heavy plant and equipment
• Carry out servicing, maintenance, and repairs to manufacturer standards
• Perform preventative maintenance inspections and scheduled servicing
• Identify and resolve hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical faults
• Conduct equipment testing and operational checks
• Interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service documentation
• Maintain accurate service records and job reports
• Use diagnostic equipment and computer-based service systems
• Ensure all work is completed efficiently and safely
• Provide technical advice and support to customers when required
• Maintain high standards of workmanship and customer service
• Work collaboratively with workshop and field service teams
• Assist in achieving service department performance targets
• Follow workplace health and safety procedures at all times
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and best practices
• Support the maintenance of a clean and organised work environment

• NZQA Level 4 qualification in Heavy Plant and Equipment Technology or equivalent trade qualification
• Proven experience servicing and repairing heavy machinery or plant equipment
• Strong mechanical aptitude and technical diagnostic skills
• Experience with hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems
• Excellent fault-finding and troubleshooting abilities
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Competent computer literacy and experience using service management systems
• Ability to read and interpret technical documentation
• Strong commitment to customer service and quality workmanship
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Reliable, professional, and safety-focused work ethic
• Current driver licence preferred
• Ability to meet standard employment and background checking requirements
