General Practice Registered Nurse

This is a permanent, full-time opening for a Registered Nurse in a general practice in the Newcastle area of New South Wales, and the duty list tells you a lot about the person they want: someone comfortable switching from triage to stock orders to an iron infusion within the same morning.

General practice experience is preferable. If you have not worked in a GP clinic, on-the-job training is offered to the right candidate, so lean on transferable skills such as wound management, immunisations and ECGs.

• Triage patients and decide on the next step for each
• Liaise with patients, including phone answering when required
• Prepare chronic disease management plans and conduct health assessments
• Operate recalls and reminders for the practice
• Take care of stock control, ordering and cold chain management
• Run ECG and spirometry tests, plus IV iron infusions and venesections
• Manage wounds and give immunisations, including to children
• Assist in minor procedures, maintain equipment and support the GPs and other staff as needed

• Current unconditional registration held with AHPRA
• Current immunisations certificate, or you are willing to complete training for it
• A CPR certificate
• A Working with Children Check that is up to date
• Good work ethic
• Well organised, with good time management skills
• Can work autonomously as well as within a team
• At ease in a fast-paced environment
• General practice experience is preferable
