Mining Engineer (Medium Term Planning)
The Opportunity
This brief is for an engineer who already knows hard rock underground mining and wants ownership of the medium-term picture. The client is a large-scale zinc-lead-silver operation in Queensland with a long mine life, and the position is permanent.
Going by the duties and requirements, the hiring team wants someone comfortable juggling multiple operating fronts, where stope extraction, backfill, airflow, services, infrastructure and development headings all affect one another. Strong candidates will show they have built and improved real schedules, not just read them. Work can be Brisbane based, FIFO to the mine or residential on site, and visa sponsorship is available for suitably qualified candidates.
To stand out, tailor your application to the listed duties. Name the planning packages you have used, give examples of sequences you handed to short-term planners, and keep your degree details ready to share.
A recruiter reads a planning CV for evidence first, so tailor a medium-term planning CV to this brief in Build AI CV and send it with your application.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain mine plans and schedules, then keep improving them so production and development targets are delivered.
- Turn Life-of-Mine and long-term strategies into practical medium-term sequences.
- Balance stope extraction against development timing, ventilation availability and infrastructure readiness within each sequence.
- Produce sequences at a level of detail that translates into short term plans.
- Look for continuous improvement in how the planning cycle supports those targets.
Requirements & Eligibility
- Tertiary qualifications held in Mining Engineering or a related subject.
- Demonstrated background in underground hard rock mining, preferably with exposure to mine planning, scheduling or technical services roles.
- Experience using planning and design software (e.g. Deswik, Surpac or equivalent) for stope sequencing, development planning and schedule analysis.
- Strong understanding of underground mining methods, production sequencing and development requirements.
- Ability to integrate operational, ventilation, geological and geotechnical constraints into practical mine plans, backed by strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess planning risks, find constraints and develop practical solutions.
