Commercial HVAC Service Technicians

An exciting opportunity is available for experienced Commercial HVAC Service Technicians to join a well-established and respected mechanical services organisation servicing commercial clients across the Canterbury Region. Multiple positions are available, including Service Team Leader, Senior Service Technician, and Qualified Service Technician roles.

Working within a professional commercial service team, you will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, repairing, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting a wide range of HVAC and refrigeration systems. Depending on your experience and leadership capabilities, opportunities are available for both hands-on technical positions and leadership-focused roles that include mentoring and team coordination responsibilities.

• Diagnose faults across commercial HVAC systems and associated equipment
• Perform servicing, maintenance, repairs, testing, and commissioning of HVAC plant and components
• Work on VRF and VRV systems, air handling units, packaged units, split systems, hi-wall units, heat pumps, ventilation systems, and related commercial HVAC equipment
• Carry out preventative maintenance and reactive service work
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and control system faults
• Complete service reports, maintenance records, and job documentation accurately
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with industry standards, regulations, and company procedures
• Build and maintain professional relationships with commercial clients and stakeholders
• Provide technical support and recommendations to clients where required
• Maintain high standards of workplace health and safety compliance
• Manage service schedules and respond to operational requirements efficiently
• Assist with commissioning and performance testing of installed systems
• Support apprentices and junior technicians through mentoring and technical guidance where appropriate
• Provide leadership, planning, coordination, and day-to-day support to service teams for senior and leadership-level positions
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and service department performance

• Relevant HVAC, Refrigeration, Mechanical Services, Air Conditioning, or equivalent trade qualification
• Post-apprenticeship experience in HVAC service, maintenance, and fault diagnosis
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across commercial HVAC systems
• Experience servicing and maintaining commercial air conditioning, refrigeration, and ventilation equipment
• Knowledge of VRF, VRV, air handling units, packaged units, split systems, heat pumps, and ventilation systems
• Ability to work independently and manage service activities with minimal supervision
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Commitment to workplace health and safety best practices
• Current full driver's licence
• Ability to accurately complete service reports and maintenance documentation
• Strong problem-solving and organisational skills
• Leadership, mentoring, supervisory, or team coordination experience highly regarded for senior-level positions
• Experience working within commercial HVAC environments preferred
